Signing, Claudette Cookies and Fan Art

Had a great time at my favorite hometown bookstore Watchung Booksellers in Montclair, NJ.  Thanks to Margot and Marisela for putting the event together and Marisela’s husband Paul for lugging a 36 inch tv to the store.

Thanks to Georgette and Baristanet kids for sponsoring event and bringing Claudette cookies from Le Baker Dozen. They were delicious, spunky and cool !

Read all about event here.   And thanks to Kristin for promoting event and giving us a great review !  One more thing, during the signing afterwards, Kyla gave me a really cool piece of fan art.  Check it out:

Claudette on a Napkin

Nina Levy keeps a daily log of drawings she does on napkins for her 9 and 5 year old boys.  Claudette, Valiant and a tasty looking strawberry made the latest napkin.  Thanks, Nina.

A Word from JOHN NOVAK (COLORIST)

FROM JOHN NOVAK

When Rafael and Jorge first approached me about coloring their graphic novel Giants Beware! I was so excited I guess I got a little bit carried away. Let’s take a look back at the early drafts.

MY FIRST TRY:

Me: How’s this?

Rafael: Too Pop Art.

Me: Got it. More dramatic.  How’s this?

Raf: That’s not even color. That’s Film Noir!

Me:  Oh, I got it!  Here:

Rafael:  Seriously?

Novak: I forgot, you’re a cat person.  Okay, how about this…

Rafael: What is she – a ghoul?

Me: No, it’s an homage to Van Gogh.

Rafael: Oh. Too busy.

Me:  Waitaminute.  I got it!

Me: How’s this?

Rafael: Ahhh, just right.

—————-

In all seriousness, it was challenging and great fun to color Raf’s amazing artwork and help bring Claudette and her friends to life.
